POTD 2-8 002“Pine Cones” by Kathy Tinker

In the whistling
Winds of fall
Pine cones and acorns
Are downed in all

Falling leaves
Usher in the Season
Soft delicate weaves
Nipping at the windows

Pine cones
Cover barren grounds
Temperatures moan
Brisk as falling snow

Multicolored leaves
Swirl and turn
Fall sweeps in
With winds icy cold

Fall disturbs
Lovely shaped leaves
Tossing North and South
Leaving bare limbed trees

  1. Lovely, Kara! We have lots of pine cones here, but they are of a longer variety and very tightly closed. I don’t know the names of our pine trees, but we have two very large ones in the front of our house … I like using the pine cones for decorating. 🙂

    1. I think I know the kind of pine cones you are talking about. They really ARE fun to decorate with. Ours are in our front yard, too. We don’t have many pines at the other place in AR.

The chickens like the pine needles in their nesting boxes. If I had more of them, I’d use them in the whole hen house. When we have had an abundance of them, I put them under their favorite bush.
